Consider adding more namespaces to Clickstream dataset
Open, Needs TriagePublic

Description

Request was made for including Portals in the clickstream dataset:

Original request: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)#c-Whatamidoing_%28WMF%29-2021-11-22T20%3A00%3A00.000Z-Certes-2021-11-20T00%3A28%3A00.000Z
If that is archived and the link breaks, the discussion is around the utility of Portals on Wikipedia:

Also, for the purpose of this discussion, it'd be really nice to have the Portal: namespace included. Looking at the results from a recent FA, it appears that direct links from the Main Page are labeled in the tool. But the path from Main Page → Portal:The arts → The arts doesn't seem to be handled.

Event Timeline

Another potential expansion could be adding Category-namespace to the clickstream.

There was a question to Research how readers use categories (link). I believe that clickstream could help answer some of these questions if Category-pages were included.

Copying the question in case the link to the original request breaks:

I am interested to find out whether Readers actually use Categories, and I was hoping your research could help me. My thoughts are

  • 99 % are mostly unused (except by web crawlers or bots)
  • Hardly any readers navigate up and downs categories
  • It is rare for a category to be used on an article page
  • The more categories (such as wikipedia:Albert Einstein ) on a page the less likely they are to be used, and the more likely there is to be conflict (exception treaties) because of nationalism
