Initially I couldn't find any way to export the e-mails in regular Goole Takeout (just as a user). This led to making full domain exports (partly due to confusing UI), which should be avoided.
When I now more properly read the instructions Takeout mentions that you need to be owner to get the complete data (albeit not very clearly). Apparently I wasn't that despite having created the group (I think). I tried downloading a test group and it looks to contain the correct data.

After this task was closed it became apparent that the function for exporting emails isn't reliable. See T309587#8133150 and on for how this failed for some groups and that there was no help from the support.
