Is it possible to have multiple variants (zh-tw, zh-cn, etc.) of text available, or there could be only one zh version across the board?

Hi folks, I'd like to loop in @ZS for the communications around this task. I can set up the election in SecurePoll today. I assume you want the same setup as in T295518: Carry out the zhwp trial admin voting decision elections on votewiki?

Is it possible to have multiple variants (zh-tw, zh-cn, etc.) of text available, or there could be only one zh version across the board?

We can include translations for these languages within SecurePoll, yes.

Some questions from me:

Meta-question:
您是否同意下列用戶擔任管理員?
您是否同意下列用户担任管理员?

I am sorry, but which of these is zh-hant and which is zh-hans ?

Should there be a minimum edit count for this election?

Should the voter list be private or publicly viewable?

Should there be a minimum edit count for this election?

I see that last time we used only those with the extendedconfirmed userright, we can do that again if this is what the community wants:

By the way, I have now added the eligible voters to the election (all 2,639 users with the extendedconfirmed permission on zhwiki). Are there any more voting restrictions (i.e. users cannot be blocked, etc)? I am assuming that the requirement for extendedconfirmed means there is no minimum edit count.

One last question, who shall be the electionadmins and who shall be the scrutineers?

I am sorry, but which of these is zh-hant and which is zh-hans ?

Should there be a minimum edit count for this election?

A need-list is available here (credit @Xiplus), and only user on this list is allowed to vote in this election.

Should the voter list be private or publicly viewable?

Sorry but I don't really understand this question, do you means the "Disable transparency features (e.g. voter list) to protect voter privacy" option when create a vote? It should be the same as the last (T295518) trial election.

One last question, who shall be the electionadmins and who shall be the scrutineers?

For electionadmins, it should be members from the T&S team; For local scrutineers, it should be the same as the trial election - two local suppressor, @Wong128hk and @jimmyxu.

There's an update of message "intro" in T308397#7931435.
Also, we would like to enable "request-comment" feature in this election.

https://vote.wikimedia.org/ has been switched to language zh. The only culprit I find is that https://vote.wikimedia.org/ redirects to https://vote.wikimedia.org/wiki/%E9%A6%96%E9%A1%B5 ( 首页 ) which does not exist.

That's fine for a vote-only site since I believe nobody will actually view the Main Page :)

I just added a redirect. We could have a Main Page/zh with a translation but I don't think it's necessary :)

Yes, this is exactly what I mean. We can turn that off if we want to so that only the scrutineers can see it. It was publicly accessible in the last election so I will keep that the same here.

For electionadmins, it should be members from the T&S team; For local scrutineers, it should be the same as the trial election - two local suppressor, @Wong128hk and @jimmyxu.

OK. I will add myself and @Nahid for now, perhaps also @ZS

There's an update of message "intro" in T308397#7931435.

Added, I believe.

Also, we would like to enable "request-comment" feature in this election.

I can do this but please be aware that comments will be publicly accessible (since the election is not encrypted). You should make this clear in the intro text.

You will also need to have a translation for the top of the comments box (probably just the word "comments" or "additional comments").

Hi @jrbs, the community made some amendments to the need-list (strike bot and vanished user), would you mind making an update?
Another thing is I am somehow confusing with the term "electionadmin" and "scrutineer" (maybe also "electcomm"), would you like to make a clarification of them? Thanks!

Sure, I have overwritten it with the list on wiki

Another thing is I am somehow confusing with the term "electionadmin" and "scrutineer" (maybe also "electcomm"), would you like to make a clarification of them? Thanks!

Sorry, the terms are quite confusing.

  • A scrutineer is someone who examines the votes to make sure that all voters are eligible to vote and that there are no duplicates.
  • electionadmin is a user right that scruntineers have which allows them to see the voter data (IP, user agent, etc) to assist with the scrutiny.
  • Election administrators are people who work to set up the election (what I am doing for zhwiki right now). They need the electionadmin right to do this.
  • electcomm is a user right given to the members of the Election Committee (who run the Foundation Board Elections). I can't remember if it provides any new tools or if it's just the same privilege set as electionadmin.

The tl;dr is that "scrutineer" is a job, and "electionadmin" is a tool needed to do that job. Election admins are the people who technically set up the election. The names are quite similar which is indeed confusing.

I can do this but please be aware that comments will be publicly accessible (since the election is not encrypted). You should make this clear in the intro text.

What do you mean of "publicly accessible" - anyone could know a comment is given by a specific voter? Also wondering during the voting period, is it possible for anyone to know someone has voted immediately after they submit their vote (together with their comment, if the answer to the previous question is true)?

They are publicly accessible in that the dump will show all the comments in plain text. I believe they would be shuffled around so in theory it would be hard to know which voter made which comment but I am not sure.

This would only be a problem after the voting period is over, I don't think it is possible to obtain a dump mid-election.

Adjustment for intro and unqualified-error in T308397#7931435.

You will also need to have a translation for the top of the comments box (probably just the word "comments" or "additional comments").

The "comment-prompt" should be 投票附言(选填).

Updated, thank you!

I have added @Wong128hk and @jimmyxu as electionadmins so they can do the scrutiny. This can begin as soon as the vote starts.

Indeed, it is probably sufficient for now :]

I'd like to confirm the results for "2022年5月中文维基百科管理员选举".
@jimmyxu see if you got any other comments. Thanks.

I concur with @Wong128hk about the result.

One note to add: we did not strike any votes placed through a proxy server as a matter of course. This was mentioned in the description of this task so I thought I'd point it out.

Please let us know if the tally could be released. Thanks.

I ran the tally. The results are as follows:

反對中立支持
和平奮鬥救地球131113

The tally is here: https://vote.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:%E5%AE%89%E5%85%A8%E6%8A%95%E7%A5%A8/tally/1347

Thanks. That matches our count. I've posted the result on-wiki and granted him the sysop flag.

Will close after language on votewiki got reset.
