finish post-creation work for wikis created in 2022
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

A while back we started using separate "post-creation work" tasks to track stuff that needed to be done after the main task of wiki creation was finished (presumably so that any given "creation" task could be resolved quickly without adversely affecting the visibility of the necessary post-creation work).

There are currently 3 such tasks that have remained unresolved (either truly not completed or just not marked as such) for more than 5 months following the creation of the corresponding wikis:

On all of these tasks, the "Inform the CVN project for IRC monitoring" item has not been marked as done. For kcgwiki, the "Clean up old interwiki links" item has also not been marked as done.

The following tasks are for wikis that were created 3½ months ago, on 2022-10-10; again, in each case the "Inform the CVN project for IRC monitoring" item has not been marked as done:

I'm not sure if any of this reflects a systematic problem that needs to be addressed (i.e., with respect to actually completing or simply indicating the completion of this kind of work). Perhaps others can weigh in on this.

For completeness, I'll list the remaining open tasks of this type (for wikis created earlier this month) below in a comment.

Event Timeline

As I promised in the description, here are the remaining open tasks of this type, for wikis created on 2023-01-04. In each case, neither "Propose the implementation of the standard bot policy" nor "Inform the CVN project for IRC monitoring" has been marked as done.

CVN (Countervandalism-Network) now tracks their work on phabricator so it should be easier to flag with them now.

I wonder if it would be easier for task completion if the bot created tasks for each item that needed to be completed so it would be easier for teams to triage and assign to indiviual users as needed.

Closed the tasks pending only CVN and Bot Policy. As for CVN a request was made on Meta to start tracking those wikis, and I'm working on it right now. As for bot policy, since November 12, 2022 all new content wikis are to be added by default to the global bot wikiset so they only need to be notified about the fact. I'll check which wikis were created on or after Nov. 12 and process them too on-wiki.

So, should the "Propose the implementation of the standard bot policy" item be rephrased?

(Thanks for handling this. I've reopened the shnwikibooks task, since it hasn't actually been finished, AFAICT. In the future, to prevent misunderstandings, we should either keep tasks open until they are actually finished or remove references to incomplete items if they don't matter.)

@Krinkle suggested that the Post-creation ... tasks be simply tagged with Countervandalism-Network. I am now proposing a pull request for that instead of asking people to post to Meta. If you think an individual task for this would be better, please let me know so I can amend the PR.

So, should the "Propose the implementation of the standard bot policy" item be rephrased?

Yes, and the bot code was already modified to use a different wording for new tasks.
