Allow numbered list output in WantedPages transclusion
Closed, ResolvedPublicFeature

Description

Special:WantedPages looks like this

But when you transclude it, it looks like this

Almost unreadable.

For comparison, almost all other similar Wanted{Files,Templates,Categories} pages do not allow transclusion.

I think WantedPages should either also disable transclusion, or show numbered list formatted output which clearly looks better.

Event Timeline

This change is quite straightforward, but I would like to know if there's a reason not do so. The formatting dates back to a 2005 change (f0741862) when transclusion support was added to the page.

Change 922099 had a related patch set uploaded (by Justinkunimune; author: Justinkunimune):

[mediawiki/core@master] Transclude Special:WantedPages as a vertical list

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/922099

It would be interesting to see if anyone is transcluding the special page in its current state anywhere. Unfortunately special page transclusions are not recorded in links tables :(

You can try finding them with a search like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?fulltext=1&profile=all&search=insource%3A%2F\{\{Special%3AWantedPages%2F (1 result in userspace) but that will miss some cases, and it gets more complicated to do on other wikis with localized namespaces and page titles.

I’m happy to +2 it and revert it if we get any community feedback that it’s not an improvement. If there’s no objections I’ll do that by the end of the day.
