Description

Background

While engineering work on the initial use case is happening, we should explore design and product improvements to make the feature more usable and discoverable. These improvements should be based on user feedback and design exploration to ensure they are optimized for adoption.

Approach

Design and Product will collaborate in two phases to gather feedback and implement improvements for the code-ready designs:

Phase 1: Feedback Collection

  • Engage 2-3 target wiki editors and gather feedback on the current design for Wikipedia integration
  • Conduct design exploration into 'User Education' while accessing the feature

Phase 2: Prototyping

  • Use the collected feedback to generate actionable improvements by creating design prototypes

Acceptance Criteria
Prototype 2-3 enhancements based on user feedback and design exploration into user education

Success Metrics
We’ll know we’re successful if we are ready to begin engineering work in Q3 to ship the next 2-3 enhancements.
Note: User education on this feature is essential and blocking for scaling it to the next wiki, making this a high-priority task for successful expansion.

Stretch Goal (optional)
Identify and prototype the next 2-3 use cases for next quarter

some updates, we started to explore a few ideas in this miro board https://miro.com/app/board/uXjVLIhSAkw=/?share_link_id=419846314922.

we identified two scenarios:

  • editors stumbling on a function while doing something else, and wanting to know more about what functions are, what is wikifunctions, how it could benefit some of their editorial workflows, ...
  • editors who want to insert or edit an existing function, and in need for information to feel empowered and enabled to properly insert or edit the function in autonomy

this week we continued to explore a few ideas for user education, specifically we focused on potential entry points to help/educational materials. all explored ideas are available in this figma file https://www.figma.com/design/NcbqS9U1Yyuc45BVGK7P8T/T376078-User-education?node-id=0-1&t=idkrppRIeCx19xov-1.

as a summary (posting mobile mocks for simplicity):

  • info button

following

Acceptance Criteria
Prototype 2-3 enhancements based on user feedback and design exploration into user education

this is the 1st suggested enhancement:

  • display a help icon/button next to the bottom sheet title (or popup title on desktop)
  • on tap (or click on desktop) open a dialog with FAQ-like information about this new feature (image/illustration TBD)

dialog full text proposal:

given the limited real-estate we also explored a full-screen dialog on mobile, thou this is blocked by T321893: Evaluate fullscreen mobile Dialog in Codex

Can "Maintaining up-to-date content" be split into its own section to explain exactly how functions make keeping things up to date easier? Something along the lines of "Changes to functions on Wikifunctions affect the results in the article, making it easier to make repetitive changes?"

that's a great suggestion! initially, we explored a more extended Q&A approach,

but then opted for something more concise. that said, given that the copy is not final, we can either rephrase any of the 3 sections to be more specific about maintenance, or add a 4th section. looping in @Sharvaniharan for additional review and thoughts!
