BetaFeatures: Move "beta" link out of personal tools while keeping equal visibility
Open, LowPublicFeature

Description

The personal tools area is overbooked and "beta" is only a subset of preferences. Surely, in a bright future we'll be able to find another place which is equally effective without being so obnoxious.

As an unactionable bug I'm minded to INVALID – do you have a solution? We've thought for a while about possible other places without success.

I filed this last year, and I still feel this way.

This isn't a duplicate of 56517; that was about changing the semantics of the link (to be where you can switch beta features on and off once you've opted in), as well as the location of it.

Indeed. Also, note the "eventually" in comment 0. I dislike the link, but I understand it's supposed to stay there for a while and I'm not going to fight for its removal. However, it IMHO needs to be tracked that, be it in 2015 or 2020, at some point it will be needed.

No, it wasn't. You must have misunderstood it. It was solely about removing the link from the toolbar by default. I would know, I reported it.

Bug 56517 was about reducing the visibility of the "beta" section of preferences, in a way or another. I don't want to discuss about that again, sorry for not making the summary clear enough.

To clarify the difference, this bug asks for some compacting and could also be solved by a red blinking icon "NEW!" next to "preferences" (no, I'm not really suggesting to do that; though it's quite similar to what Echo does, of course :P ).
