Special:UserProfile/<user> suggests a user profile page, which it is not currently.
If the linking to this (imho completely futile) page should not be broken, the only valid alias is the real profile page, that's User:<user>.
Why was this invented?
Who asked for it?
Where was it discussed?
Why is it named UserProfile?
What's the official purpose of this?
Here's what my "profile" looks like:

But that's exactly what it looks like, and it serves absolutely no purpose. It has nothing whatsoever to do with a profile. I wonder what stupid idiot came up with this rubbish.

For more information read Lilas Talk page or the German Kurier.
What's the use of this useless page anyway? It ain't my profile, not even remotely (That's my user page). It's ugly as f***, I fail to see any purpose for this "merkbefreite" (observationally challenged) page.

Yes, it's a shame the over the pond there seems to next to no grasp about privacy matters. Data nightmares like Facebook or Google are seen in a positive light despite their extreme data mining, thus privacy raping.
Anyone who mentions privacy nightmares like Facebook, Twitter, Google or such has obviously no idea of privacy at all. Facebook is the very opposite of good privacy, doing something "like Facebook" in regards of privacy is the same as doing something completely wrong.
The "Thanks" gadget is nice, the data-collection everything but nice. If such nice tool is misused for Schwanzvergleichslisten (pissing contest lists), it's extremely devaluated.

Something like this: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/P199 ?
It was used for both, the first one was preview, the second one send.
I've made some screenshots about this:
