TBA details on strategy and infrastructure
Update: MediaWiki 1.35.0 was scheduled to get cut on 7 April 2020, which has been delayed due to COVID19 uncertainty. An announcement will be made by Friday, May 29 giving an update on when the REL1_35 branch will be cut.
We need to start releasing stable releases that 3rd parties can actually use.
The goal will be to have the bulk of this sorted out for 1.35 in 2020, per https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Version_lifecycle, which is the next LTS.

At the developer summit this year I discussed with @Legoktm about actually backporting security fixes for Wikibase to previous branches.
we also now have the docker images which tie Wikibase versions to the Mediawiki version for which they are based.
Maybe we can come up with a concrete document about this area at some point.
Marking this high level task as done, as via https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/board/5063/ and work done in recent hikes the goals are acheived.
