Description

Not sure, but perhaps this is one of the reasons why there are so many complaints about wrong personalization of compact links.

Given that I know Norwegian Bokmål
When I visit an article at nowiki
Then I expect the preferred weight for nowiki to increase

Given that I know Norwegian Nynorsk
When I visit an article at nnwiki
Then I expect the preferred weight for nnwiki to increase

If I have one browser with one tab this works, because I will use CLL to navigate between the sites. If I use two different tabs I newer navigate with CLL, so how is the preferred wight increased? Is it increased at all? By opening two tabs in Chromium in incognito mode it seems like a tab with nowiki isn't updated with Swedish links when i open another tab with svwiki.

Could this be the reason why some users claim they don't experience any personalization?

That is, personalization counts clicks in the CLL dialog on each language in Wikipedia, while it should count views to the different languages. That would better adapt to different use cases.

I might be wrong, but the blocker is probably the inability to have global preferences and global cookies. T135374 is related, although you are suggesting site visits rather than clicks on interlanguage links. While generally a sensible idea, this may also be a step into a direction of more user tracking, which may have privacy implications, although I'm not that much of a privacy nerd :)

I don't think clicks vs visits are important. Actually if I could chose I would probably prefer tracking in local storage in the browser and not by sending a cookie back and forth.
