Event Timeline

Halfak triaged this task as Medium priority.Jan 19 2017, 3:26 PM
Halfak added a project: ORES.
Halfak added subscribers: Ladsgroup, dr0ptp4kt.
Halfak added subscribers: jeffelder, DarTar.

Yesterday, @DarTar, @dr0ptp4kt and I met with @jeffelder to talk about ORES comms in the coming quarters. We decided to combine announcements for this and the high usage rate of the ORES Review Tool.

Notes from the meeting are here: https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/ores_announcements

I've started a stub outline of the blog post re. usage and API.php here: https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/ores_announcements_usage

@He7d3r, @Ladsgroup, @putnik, @Krinkle, @tarlocesilion we'll probably want to announce this to Portuguese, Persian, Russian, Dutch, and Polish tool devs too. Can you help us with translations and knowing where to post?

I just pinged @Jbarbara and @jeffelder in comms about getting moving on my stub of an outline for a blog post. Here's my "inverted pyramid":

  • One of our projects has seen heavy adoption
  • ORES is an AI that predicts which edits are damaging and rates article quality.
  • We've been working on a MediaWiki extension that makes ORES easier to use within Wikipedia and other wikimedia projects.
    • The ORES Review Tool ... (audience: wikipedian patrollers)
    • The 'oresscores' param in api.php ... (audience: patrolling tool developers)
  • We've already seen massive adoption. The ORES Review Tool has 18,050 active Wikipedians and the oresscores api.php param gets 600k request per week.
  • The work on api.php was done in collaboration with the Reading Infrastructure team.

Hey folks! It's been a week since the last ping, so I'm pinging again :)

Note that we've disabled the api.php end point because we were getting a DOS attack.

For the record, api.php endpoint was re-enabled per T163687.

@Halfak Where: Equivalent of "Village Pump Technical" on nl.wikipedia.org is https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:SHEIC, which is already subscribed to Tech News. I can translate the message as part of Tech News, but usually someone else does that already.

@Tgr I spoke with @Halfak and we were wondering, would you feel comfortable sending an email to medaiwiki-api (and other appropriate mailing list(s), come to think of it) on this, with some good URL examples?

^ That, instead of doing a full blown blog post.

We never did this. Should we do it or just decline this task?

Sorry, I missed that ping somehow. Sure, I can write an email if you think it is still useful.

I think that would be great, especially with a few cool examples - maybe show some stuff around the pageviews and ORES combined?
