During research sessions on template translation (T161188), a participant had issues dealing with references:

• The user was not able to restore references after deleting. This forced the user to act with extra care when deleting content in the translation. Adding references, especially those available in the source, more easily would make the deletion process less frustrating.
• It was not possible to translate the reference content. Being able to do so (maybe similarly to how templates are translated) would avoid the user to go through a post-publishing reference fixing process.
