@Tohaomg provided a list of translated language names to add: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Matma_Rex#Ukrainian_language_in_Upload_Wizard

It would be good for another person to check it for typos etc., but I don't speak Ukrainian – @Base, can you look at it please?

Will it go upstream to CLDR? I am not sure I will have the time. @Ata, @Piramidion perhaps you guys could do it.

I'm not sure how CLDR operates (but I think we have a few people who work with them, I don't remember who though), but I think getting anything into there takes months at least, so I think we should add these locally first in our CLDR extension – we already have such additions in several languages.

@Base I don't think pinging Wikimedia users can be helpful on changing CLDR translations, as only the last one of vetters from a company/an organization can be considered as 4 votes, thus to actually change translations, you may need to ask Adobe/Apple/Google/Microsoft vetters (what about upgrading @Ahonc, @Andrij, or @microcell3 from guest to vetter?), as in general that require 8 or 20 votes. In your case, those can be one of (afaics)

  1. Stepan Herman (apple): ukr_stepan-{at}-intertransl.com
  2. Anya M (google): 002-uk_0005-{at}-002vendor.com
  3. Dina N (google): dinan-{at}-google.com
  4. Ukrainian-Ukraine Igor (microsoft): cldr_uk_ua-{at}-outlook.com

But is changing translations really OK within that screenshot? Alemannic, Aromanian... IMHO are because of incorrect language codes under Wikimedia umbrella, so why don't you create a LocalNamesUk.php? Where Atikamekw is still unavailable even in their English (you have to file a ticket in Trac)

Hi @Tohaomg, please email me so that I can give you access to the CLDR survey tool (see https://translatewiki.net/wiki/CLDR for process). We generally don't have problems getting enough votes for Ukrainian and I can take care of it if it happens. If I see correctly a few new translations have already reached enough votes and will be released next month.

Most of these codes however are just not in CLDR, so it's ok to add them to LocalNames temporarily (except bh, which should just be instructed to fetch the name from the actual code bho). We're also looking into deciding which language names (not locales) have priority for inclusion in CLDR: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T151269#3390461

Someone asked about this on irc. In https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/diffusion/ECLD/browse/master/LocalNames/ we have local additions like for example English at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/diffusion/ECLD/browse/master/LocalNames/LocalNamesEn.php . Uk could be added there with the missing translations.

That is only acceptable if the translations are also supported upstream, of if they are for language codes not supported by CLDR.
