Have italics wrapping the label of a link makes it impossible to edit using VE
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

How italics are wrapping a link label will block that link edition on VE. When you click on the link no pop-up appears to edit that link.

That depends on how the wikitext is formatted:

  • For external links
    • [https://www.academia.edu/36036629/Atlas_du_Proche_Orient_arabe_Atlas_of_the_Arabic_Near_East_ ''Atlas du Proche-Orient arabe''] is not editable
    • ''[https://www.academia.edu/36036629/Atlas_du_Proche_Orient_arabe_Atlas_of_the_Arabic_Near_East_ Atlas du Proche-Orient arabe]'' is editable
  • For internal links
    • [[Test|''normal peut contenir'']] is not editable
    • ''[[Test|normal peut contenir]]'' is editable

All those syntaxes should be editable.

Bad. You can see this in action on https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabrice_Balanche#Ouvrages: you can delete and add characters, but you don't get the normal dialogue to edit the link.

As a workaround, you can still click the link icon on the toolbar or press Ctrl+K to open the inspector.

I think this is the same issue as T196914, which Ed already fixed?

I copied the example to https://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/T197213?veaction=edit and it works correctly there, so this is definitely the same issue.
