Description

The Growth team has strong relationships with Czech and Korean Wikipedias, that will help us deploy features, test them, and learn from those communities. We will eventually want relationships with additional wikis because (a) we may want to broaden our ability to experiment and (b) if we find features that increase retention, we will want to deploy them to more wikis.

Therefore, one of our 2018Q2 goals is "A third community beyond Czech and Korean is participating in conversations with the Growth team in their own language."

Our team's Community Relations Specialist will primarily be driving and defining this task.

Contact some wikis
Internally document how to onboard them to be our partner (documentation we need, more info about the environment, etc.)
The wiki has finished the initial process to have the features Growth team develops

Vietnamese Wikipedia is our best candidate so far. We will start the onboarding work soon.

Vietnamese Wikipedia has been asked about their feelings concerning how new users are welcomed, if it is easy to contribute to Wikipedia and if the community members are aiming to welcome new users. 4 people have participated to the discussion.

In short, contributing to Wikipedia is perceived as difficult for newcomers. There is a lot to learn and an identified place to get help would be welcomed.
The community has identified things to improve: help templates, wiki mechanism, too little explanations given, policies that are numerous and sometimes unclear...

Overall, people tend to help newcomers on vi.wp: "whenever I have questions or requests for help, I get a lot of help" says one, who was a newcomers not a while ago. "I see people always help new people" says an other.

It was the last step of everything we asked to the community, in order to deploy the Growth team prototypes. @MMiller_WMF, can we officialise that collaboration and have the Vietnamese Wikipedia being informed of the deployment of Personalized first day and Understanding first day at the beginning of January?
