Re-define what constitutes a mobile pageview

I think it will be worth to step back and take some time to define what constitutes a mobile pageview

The current pageview definition for mobile apps is quite imperfect:

  • it is not maintained by the apps teams which are the ones that are aware of changes that might affect the definition
  • it is not tied to user behaviour. With the recent changes in the apps pageviews "seem" to have decreased on 30% but that probably does not reflect the reality of user engagement with the app.
  • it lacks rigor as rather that counting as pageviews known user actions flags as "pageviews" pure HTTP requests and in some instances this has the effect that preloads not seen by a user might be counted as pageviews
