Qurator: The Wikidata Curious Facts Project
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Wikidata has a tons of data and we need to help the editors keep its quality high. One type of data that hints at potential errors in the data are outliers and similar anomalies. However they might also be a hint at something really curious happening in the world. One such outlier is the woman who married the Eiffel Tower. It’s hard for a machine to automatically judge if it is an error in the data or a real curiosity but our editors can. We want to surface these anomalies to editors to either entertain/educate or get them fixed.

Maybe will turn it into a self-serve tool on labs or so? But that comes later.

Reporting: end of January 2021.

The dashboard is running on the test-server: http://datakolektiv.org:3838/WD_CuriousFacts/

Leftovers:

@WMDE-leszek The problems in relation to URL rendering in production is solved. A minor bug was in question - as I hoped it will be.

Some problems were detected in the latest Qurator Curious Facts update, e.g.:

Institute for Colored Youth has a statement "educated at: Frazelia Campbell" but Frazelia Campbell is not found in the class "organization".

Song dynasty has a statement "country of citizenship: Shu Mao" but Shu Mao is not found in the class "state".

2018 UCI World Ranking has a statement "participant in: Carlos García" but Carlos García is not found in the class "occurrence".

Inspecting the issue now.

As of T261906#7381822

  • bug found;
  • bug fixed;
  • running a separate, manual update for M1 class anomalies;
  • deployment follows ASAP.

Update fixed; system up and running.
