RML language preference issue
Open, LowPublic

Description

Two recent donors received RML emails in languages other than their preferred Civi languages, so this task is just to document that in case it turns into a bigger thing that needs attention.

@MSuijkerbuijk_WMF notes: Trilogy raised the question/task of the data being submitted to Civi first, instead of Acoustic, so seems like good timing

Event Timeline

Just adding more notes:

cid 33451296 has Portuguese as their preferred language and the email I see in the description looks like it should have been Portuguese. What did they receive?

Also the email address associated with that CID does not appear on any other contacts so this isn't a dupe issue.

cid 50981580 should not be a dupe issue either. They should have gotten a Spanish email. Can DR or the email team tell me what they received?

@KHaggard @MSuijkerbuijk_WMF can you check what the languages are for these cids in acoustic? Can you tell which email translations they got?

Thanks, @DStrine, it looks like both cases received the RML in English, despite the Civi language preferences:

ZD 945686 / CID 33451296 - the donor's language preferences are in Portuguese in Civi but they received the RML in english

ZD 947530 / CID 50981580. RML sent in English, but in Civi it's es_PE

This might be more of an internal acoustic/email team issue. I don't know enough about how the RML sends are organized. But as far as I know, Acoustic should have the preferred language just like civi.

Thanks both. On the RML program set up, we have 2 fields that capture these data from the banners (rml_country and rml_language) and according to these the emails are triggered. I can't think of what has gone wrong with those 2 records @KHaggard have you seen this before?

Also noting that we have recently talked to Trilogy about where the data sits. Trilogy will log a phab task soon to talk about possibilities to get this data submitting into Civi first and then Civi sends it over to Acoustic.

Hi there. No, I’ve never seen this before. I’m not the one who typically handles RML, so unfortunately, I'm not able to advise on how to fix this. What I can do is look up what those 2 CIDs say for “rml_language” in Acoustic, which by the way, anyone with Acoustic access can look up by going to:
Data > Databases > _all_Wikimedia > Search > Search where: ContactID equals [CID number].

I’m attaching a screenshot with what I found. Looks like both CIDs have English specified for rml_language.

Thanks @KHaggard for sharing the path to look at it, I've never been trained on that. Thanks also for confirming that language is English vs the below info shared by Michael. This shows there is inconsistency between Civi and Acoustic rml language.

ZD 945686 / CID 33451296 - the donor's language preferences are in Portuguese in Civi but they received the RML in english
ZD 947530 / CID 50981580. RML sent in English, but in Civi it's es_PE
