This task involves the work of analyzing who engages with the page tools while editing on desktop and what specific tools they engage with.
Knowing about the above will help inform how and where we might present people with multiple Edit Checks while they're editing on desktop using the Vector (2022) skin. Note: we are designing this "multi-check" user experience in T347530.
Decision(s) to be made
- 1. How prominent/accessible will the page tools need to be in relation to the multi-Edit Check experience T347530 will introduce?
Research questions
to be finalized
ID | Research question | Metric(s) |
1. | How often do people across experience levels (incl. logged out) use the page tools while editing? | Of the people who interacted with a tool within the page tool menu during at least 1 edit session during the analysis window, what proportion of those people interacted within the menu in 25%/50%/75%/100% of the edits they made? |
2. | Which page tools are people using most? | |
3. | How "vital" are page tools to edit success? | A) Of the edit sessions that result in someone successfully saving an edit, what proportion of those sessions involve people using a tool within the page tools menu? B) Of the edit sessions that result in someone abandoning an edit, what proportion of those sessions involve people using a tool within the page tools menu? |
NOTE: we'd like to answer each of the questions above for people editing using the Vector (2022) and Vector (2010) skins as well as the following editing interfaces: 2010 wikitext editor, 2017 wikitext editor, and the visual editor.
