SOA and Operations session at 2015 MediaWiki Developer Summit
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

There are a number of big surprises when it comes to deploying new services in our cluster, and those are only going to compound as we move to SOA. How do we streamline the deployment of new services in a way that doesn't make everyone crazy? What sorts of infrastructure are we going to need to deploy?

This session should ideally be scheduled after T85154 and before T86372.

It might make sense to focus this discussion more on the high-level / organizational aspects, while T86372 explores the trade-offs around virtualization as one possible way forward to address devops scaling, deployment & testing challenges.

Agreed. However, right now these two sessions contend for the same audience, which seems pretty suboptimal.

This is probably my fault, since I had to organize the main room schedule and there were many factors in play. Please just find a good slot for the concurrent session.

Assuming @GWicke would prefer to have it after the SOA plenary: how about Robertson 3 @ 2:45 PM for T86372?

@Qgil, what is the 'After plenary' entry in the latest schedule about? Is that to keep space open to continue the discussion? If so, then I think scheduling this session right there would actually make sense, as it seamlessly continues along the same theme. The operations talk should be before the virtualization talk (T86372), as there will likely be overlap again.

Moving this to 2:45 PM would create an overlap with T86567.

Yes, the after-plenary is for you to decide what you want to do right after your plenary, connected with the main theme.

@Qgil, great. I went ahead & scheduled the SOA plenary, SOA & operations and virtualization / CI / deployment in one block in the morning. People can just stay in the same room to follow the discussions around the theme that way.

Hello, I am proposing we close this (and all summit session related tasks that don't have actionables)

Closing as there's no actionables (at least none I see in http://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/MDS_2015_SOA_and_operations ).

If there is something left here, please elaborate what it is.
