T58041 "updateCollation.php script prohibitively slow for very large wikis" might be an issue for this.

It's less "prohibitively" and more "very inconveniently"… and that task actually had a patch merged. I'm not sure how much of an issue it still is.

What, apart from community consensus, is required for this?

@jcrespo to babysit the databases and ensure they're not melting while the updateCollation.php script is running.

I posted it on the local technical village pump ( https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:SHEIC#Verbeteren_sorteervolgorde_categori.C3.ABen ) this morning, but there hasn't been a lot of response yet. I'll also post a note on the main village pump.

The proposal has been announced on the village pump, and the 'overleg gewenst' (discussion wanted) page, and no objections has been raised at all, so we can assume consensus for this proposal.
