Investigate updating Template:OurProjects-multi to have the same footer as Wikipedia.org
Open, MediumPublic

Description

As the Wikipedia.org portal has a new footer that includes descriptive text for each sister project, we should investigate if we want to do this for the template that is used for other footers: Template:OurProjects-multi as seen on the home page of the WMF

This will involve several teams within WMF and community outreach involvement to be sure it's something we'd like to do.

Event Timeline

I think we all agree that we should have consistent tagline across projects (templates, portals, etc.)

I may have missed something, but did we take the language for the Wikipedia.org portal from an existing source? Or were those created just for the portal?

If the latter, it might be better to go the other way around. The language on foundationwiki, metawiki and elsewhere has gone through more community review - there's just more history there in favor of the exiting language.

I think Nick suggested staring a talk page or making list thread to ask folks to help improve the existing tagline. Might be a good first step to aligning things.

HI @CKoerner_WMF -

We created the language for the descriptive text for the portal, taking liberally from various other portals / sources and using our own brainstorming and then updated it based on community feedback.

I agree with starting a talk page on this - to see if folks like what text the portal has, or even if they want us to update that particular template.

template that is used for other footers

You mean just on portals, right?

I'd like to be able to chat with the folks that are using this exact template to be sure they're ok with any updates that might be made.

Currently, the list (that I know of) is here and here for this page on Meta.
