[edit check] Investigate working out which content was added during an edit
Closed, ResolvedPublicSpike

Description

We can look at

  1. Transactions
  2. The visual diff output

With transactions we may want to be able to only look at additions (as opposed to annotations)

Outcome

By the end of this investigation, there will be a functional demo that enables the Editing Team to make changes to an article and see:

  1. What – if any – new content the software "thinks" was added during said edit
  2. Where within an existing article the software "thinks" the new content it detects was added

Decisions to be made

The "Outcome" of this spike will enable the Editing Team to decide whether the detecting heuristic/method used to create the demo this task is describing is accurate and reliable to iterate upon.

Updated task description based on the conversation @Esanders and I had a few a few minutes ago offline.

Change 879507 had a related patch set uploaded (by Esanders; author: Esanders):

[VisualEditor/VisualEditor@master] [DNM] Highlight inserted content via find-and-replace dialog

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/879507

Before we can resolve this task, we need to finishing investigating cases 12., 13., and 14. described in T326856.

Test wiki on Patch demo by ESanders (WMF) using patch(es) linked to this task was deleted:
