Mismatch Finder header should have a link to the main page
Closed, ResolvedPublic2 Estimated Story Points

Description

As an mismatch reviewer I want to easily navigate back to the main page in order to check more Items.

Problem:
Right now there is no link back to the main page besides the "Refine Item selection" button, which is not obvious when coming directly to a results page and it is not possible to open it in a new tab.
We want to solve the issue by linking the header to the main page of the Mismatch Finder.

Mockups:
See Figma
New logo:

BDD
GIVEN the Mismatch Finder main page or results page
WHEN clicking on the header
THEN I get sent to the main page of the Mismatch Finder

Acceptance criteria:

  • the Mismatch Finder header is linked to the main page of the Mismatch Finder

Original report:
The Mismatch Finder gadget goes to a URL like https://mismatch-finder.toolforge.org/results?ids=Q12345. From this screen, there is no obvious way to go to the main page of the tool (you have to know what "Refine Item selection" means/does) and no way to open the tool in another tab (since that's a button).

I've had the same thought the other day.
@Sarai-WMDE Do you have a good idea? Making the name at the top clickable?

Lydia_Pintscher moved this task from Backlog to Needs work on the Mismatch Finder board.

The fastest move would be to 'feed two birds with one scone' and update the button copy to make it clearer that this is the way to go back to the main page (See T323682: "Refine Item selection" button is confusing when loading results directly).

Another (non-conflicting) solution could be to add the name of the tool to the header and make that clickable. Like so:

(Note: this is just a quick mock-up, not a final design)

This change could help with T323678: Save space on Mismatch Finder main page and results page to make call to action easier to see.

@Sarai-WMDE Let's do this but keep the 3 tasks separate and make this one about only the linking of the header.

Makes sense, of course. Adding to to do list...

Michael set the point value for this task to 2.Nov 28 2022, 3:19 PM
Michael moved this task from Product Backlog to Sprint-∞ on the Wikidata Dev Team board.

The new logo SVG has a solid white background, whereas the old one (Wikidata only) is transparent – is that a required change? (It might be, because the logo now includes text that brings additional contrast requirements with it, but I’m not sure.)

No! Sorry, that's an export mistake. Reattaching.

It might be, because the logo now includes text that brings additional contrast requirements with it, but I’m not sure.

Regarding the color, the Mismatch finder logo now uses a shade from the Wikimedia's Design Style guide (and the design system). But, of course, this makes the tool's logo inconsistent with the default WD logo :-/ The difference is subtle, but it's there. For now, I believe it's better to avoid the implications that this inconsistency might bring, and only apply such a change if/when we can bring it to all environments.
