As part of the work on MinT for Wikipedia Readers MVP (T359072) we want to allow communities to access more content that is only available in other languages with the use of machine translation.
In order to start learning how the MVP works with real content we want to enable it in one wiki.
Igbo Wikipedia has been selected since they have been using MinT frequently for the creation of translations.
Feedback from the community will inform future decisions on wether to improve the tool or enable it for more wikis.
Key points:
- The community can try MinT for Wiki Readers in Igbo Wikipedia at Special:AutomaticTranslation
- The plan is to enable two entry points on the mobile web version of WIkipedia to allow readers to access machine translation when content is missing in Igbo. One from the language selector (T363183) and another one at the footer of articles (T363338).
- In the proposed approach Machine translation is always identified as such and human-created content is surfaced and recommended.
- Development is in a very early stage since we want to hear early what works and what can be improved to better support the community needs.
Steps:
- Communication with Igbo Wikipedia community.
- Enablement on Igbo WIkipedia.
