Community-maintained projects on Toolforge are hard to track
Open, LowPublic

Description

There are quite a few projects that are duplicates of other projects, or orphaned projects that were created months ago and are now unused.

We need...

  1. some sort of matchmaking system to link up new volunteers with existing projects, and
  2. some way to track which projects are active vs. inactive, and
  3. A better way to track 'ownership' of projects so that we know who to ask about the above

Version: unspecified

Aklapper set Security to None.

For Tool Labs, valhallasw pointed out that https://tools.wmflabs.org/contact/ could be helpful

High priority but assigned to nobody?

Would this task be a good topic for the Wikimedia-Developer-Summit (2017) ? If so, the deadline to submit new proposals is next Monday, October 31: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Developer_Summit/Call_for_participation
