Turns out there are several projects having to do with uploading images to wikipedia articles:
- image uploading of an image from commons to wiki page (what we did this heuristic on)
- inline editing of image comments and alignment - there are designs, but it is not implemented (AFAIK)
- Uploading image from user's computer to commons for using in a wikipedia article right away. (being implemented)
@Prtksxna (Prateek Saxena) adding you as I hear you are working on some of this too. Please let us know if we can do a heuristic on either number 2 or 3 listed above, and how that might be done prior to release (if possible).

I am a bit confused. I should be able to help, but a few clarifications first.
Do you mean to say using an image from commons? I don't think uploading would be the right word here. Also, the Heuristic Evaluation of image upload… page says:
Evaluate the usability of the image uploader within visual editor. It has been released to production…
As far as I know, there is no image uploader within VE in production right now.

This is being worked on at https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/240116/. What infrastructure do you currently have? Is it possible for you to check out this and a few other patches on a mediawiki installation somewhere?

The new uploading code is now live at http://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/ and will be live at production wikis next week (Thursday for Wikipedias).
