Ingenico Ukrainian credit card iframe should fall back to English instead of Russian
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Globalcollect's credit card iframe doesn't have translations for Ukrainian. Worse, it currently falls back to Russian, which is making people angry because of the political situation in Ukraine.

Anne thinks we can change this on our end to fall back to English instead, which would be an improvement.

See also T109064 which is to get the fields translated into Ukrainian (and other languages) but is a longer-term project.

I think this is getting slightly confused with the main issue we had before: we couldn't add Ukrainian translations to the Globalcollect iframe, and so it was always falling back to Russian (T118734). If we're using Adyen now, that's no longer a problem.

So this will be automatically fixed by T124228?

@Nemo_bis
I'm changing the title back again--this really is a problem specific to Ingenico, because it has to do with the forms provided on their end.

Please feel free to ping us in IRC Wikimedia-Fundraising if you have any questions.

@Nemo_bis Let me try and clarify:

  • This is about the forms provided by our credit card processors, where they collect donors' card details
  • Our main card processor Ingenico (formerly Globalcollect or GC) only have their forms translated into a limited number of languages, and we are not able to add more with their current setup T109064
  • Adyen is a new processor that would let us add our own translations for these forms. This is a major reason we want to try it in our upcoming Ukraine fundraiser T124228
  • Even if Adyen works well for Ukraine, we'll still probably keep Ingenico around as a backup processor just in case. So it would be nice to fix this task all the same (but a low priority)

Closing this, we aren't going to be taking donations in Ukraine for the foreseeable future. And even if we did, Adyen would be our default processor.
