[Wikimania 2018 workshop proposal] TemplateData workshop
Closed, DeclinedPublic

Description

Like last year, I'm submitting a workshop session about creating TemplateData. It can be a workshop during the main conference, or during the hackathon for non-technical attendees.

Abstract:

More and more users on wikis are using the visual editor, especially new users. They can be blocked when whey want to use templates, because those require more information to be inserted and edited on the visual editor.

This is why TemplateData exists: to add more structure to templates to east their use and provide advanced editing modes. Creating TemplateData is not a difficult task and, when done, you only have to make a little of maintenance time to time.

During this workshop, you will discover how to create TemplateData for templates used on your wiki. By attending, you will be able to work on your templates and fix them to increase access, participation and quality on your wiki, by helping newcomers to edit using the visual editor (and more). A good time investment!

Desired outcome:

  • have more people aware of how to create TDs.
