Event Timeline

The page https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk_pages_project/Beta_Features might need update for this to work. Translations to Dutch: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Overleghulpmiddelen. Upgrade from 1.0 to 2.0.

@AdHuikeshoven, two questions for you:

  1. Can you share the changes you think need to be made to this page?
  2. Also, when you say, "...[the page] might need update for this to work." are you suggesting this ought to happen before conversations about the tool being deployed as an opt-out preference or before the tool itself is deployed? If it's the latter, we agree, if it's the former, can you share what's leading you to think that?

I think we're on the same page about #1 [i]; I'm asking to be sure.

i. The updates we have in mind sound like what you suggested on the talk page: ADD information about Replying v2.0 and more broadly, update the page so someone seeing the Reply tool for the first time can use the page to quickly learn things like: What is the purpose of this tool? What features does it have? What stage of development is it in? Where can I learn more about its development? Where can I share feedback about the tool?//

Updates like [i] are spot on. Make sure the documentation don't appear outdated to someone new to the reply-tool. And preferably before conversations about deployments. My assumption is people will more likely look at the documentation than look at the tool to inform themselves whether deployment is a good idea, or not. I think a handful tweaks to the page will suffice.

@AdHuikeshoven, I think https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:DiscussionTools is going to be the long-term documentation for regular editors (think "end users" or "beginner's guide"). Please "Be bold" in adding/removing information until we have a good version.

?dtvisual=1 is outdated, so the image needs an update

This makes a lot of sense; thank you for this feedback, @AdHuikeshoven.

This is looking great, @Whatamidoing-WMF and agreed about this being the longer-term destination for information about the tool.

Although, for the purpose of having conversations with volunteers about potential deployments (e.g. the conversation we will be having at the Arabic, Dutch, French and Hungarian Wikipedias very soon), I'd like for us to share a page people can use to learn about specific features as well as the context of the project at-large.

A link to said page is linked below and ready for y'all to review. Once the content in /PPelberg (WMF)/sandbox is finalized, I'd like to:

  1. Use it to replace the content that is currently on Talk pages project/Beta features and
  2. Move the Talk pages project/Beta features to Talk pages project/Feature summary
