Develop detailed technical plans for GLAM tools that we can build in the future. These plans are developed in the form of external project applications, so that if WMF cannot finance the hub in 2021, these technical plans can be the basis for project applications to other funders.
If the hub becomes a reality, these plans can form the basis for the work that will take place in the coming years. The plans developed will be presented to the Wikimedia community and other stakeholders for feedback and discussion.
Examples include: crowdsourcing of historical maps (e.g. Wikimaps); improving metadata through crowdsourcing (specifically targeted at minorities); linking authorities via Wikidata; Wikibase for GLAM institutions; AI training materials through crowdsourcing; proofreading documents outside of Wikisource (UNESCO Archives as an example of image collections with printed metadata needed transcription); mass uploads of lexical resources.
It is crucial that each of these examples are communicated and actively discussed with the GLAMwiki community per T261612: ☂Communication about the content partnership initiative.
