Design a deck and component for presentations
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Background

As makers, we often need to share information in a presentation format. A variety of assets have been made by a handful of designers that need to be streamlined into single voice.

User stories

As a designer, I need a "brief" component that matches the look and feel of the design system, for when I present ideas directly within figma.

As a product manager, I need a set of slides that match the look and feel of the design system.

Considerations

  • "brief" figma components
  • WMF Communication Department slide deck

Event Timeline

Hi @iamjessklein @bmartinezcalvo I’ve created a branch for the update of the briefing slides. The main changes I’ve made are:

  • Changing typography to Helvetica Neue and Georgia
  • Changing most of the use of Accent 50 as a background colour to Accent 90 (with exception of the cover slide)
  • Some slight adjustments to the styling of the elements on the step and timeline slides

You can see them here

Let me know if you have any thoughts. If you are happy with these changes I’ll move onto the Google Slides template.

Hi @KieranMcCann thank you for sharing, I have leave you some Figma comments about small things. What worries me most is: should we use Montserrat and Source Serif Pro instead of Helvetica and Georgia? Read this brand info about typography.

Thanks for your comments @bmartinezcalvo. I’ll respond to most of them in Figma but regarding the typography I chose to use Helvetica Neue and Georgia as this is what we use on our project covers and most closely aligns with what we use on site. The Foundation website itself uses Helvetica Neue and Georgia.

I think there is a bigger issue around our use of typography. For instance currently we use:

  • On platform: Sans-serif system font (which often falls back to Arial/Helvetica) and Georgia
  • Style guide: Lato, Charter and Noto
  • Brand Studio guidelines: Montserrat and Source Serif Pro

This creates a lot of inconsistency and confusion and, with the exception of Noto, doesn’t really begin to address our approach to typography beyond Latin scripts.

I plan to speak with the Brand Studio about this soon and would like to see us come to a solution and reduce the number of typefaces we are using.

But for the moment I think Helvetica Neue and Georgia are a better reflection of the product and should be used for these brief slides.

Thank you for all the info @KieranMcCann. I agree with you, we are using too many different fonts and we should unify them. In fact I've never understood the use of Montserrat in our Google presentations for example.

@KieranMcCann as the fonts to use were already defined in T305920 we can finish this task now. You can also find the chosen typefaces in the exploration file of Typography tokens.

@bmartinezcalvo is there more to do here, or can we close this?

@AnneT as listed in the acceptance criteria, we need to update the slides with our font choices: Inter + Source Serif Pro.

Chatted with @bmartinezcalvo about and closing this resolved. We can create a new task to update the slide template fonts later if needed.
