Storyboard the reference check user experience (desktop)
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

T325711 ended up involving the work of defining at a high, and also relatively detailed level, what the Editing Team would propose for the initial mobile Edit Check user experience.

This task involves the work of creating a similarly detailed proposal for the initial desktop Edit Check user experience.

Mockups/Storyboard

Edit Check (desktop): mockups (figma) | tappable prototype (figma)

Overall approach

Per what the Editing Team decided offline on 15 March 2023, we will approach the initial Edit Check desktop user experience in a way that we ended up converging on for the mobile experience: present people who are attempting to publish edits that match the criteria defined in T324730 with a new, distinct step within the desktop publishing flow. Like on mobile, this "distinct step" will prompt people to decide whether they would like to accompany the new information they're adding with a source. If they choose not to add a source, Edit Check will prompt people to express why they have made this choice.

Done

  • A link to mockups showing the "full" Edit Check desktop UX is included within the "Mockups/Storyboard" section above.
    • Note: similar to what we did as part of T325711, these mockups ought to be visualized in a way that enables the Editing Team to see the various ways in which the screens within the UX relate to one another.
  • Mockups showing the proposed Edit Check desktop experience are "pasted into" the Edit Check Measurement Miro Board so that @MNeisler can propose instrumentation as part of T324735

@nayoub, the above are looking good. Two questions...

Questions

  • 1. Can we see a version of the tappable prototype that does not cause the person's view to "slide" as they move through the publishing flow? At present, multiple actions cause the interface to "slide" left and right (clicking Publish changes, selecting Yes or No in the Add a citation dialog). I find the movement to be a bit unexpected/distracting and I wonder if simply fading the views in/out of one another might ease the feeling that I think is brought about by the spatial metaphor I perceive the sliding to be introducing. [i]
  • 2. Can we try out a version that replaces the Edit check language that currently appears within the header [ii] with Review changes? I worry that Edit check will be of little help to newcomers who might be seeking additional context as to what they're meant to be doing in this portion of this publishing process.

i. I suggested this having looked at Instagram's desktop post creation flow which seems to progress people through by fading views in/out
