Description

People at UNISA who are working on translation of Wikipedia articles to languages of South Africa are interested in having ContentTranslation enabled in Afrikaans.

The source languages should be English and Dutch.

Apertium Machine translation from Dutch can be enabled, but only as opt-in and not by default.

The Language Engineering team follows a 2-step process for enabling Content Translation:

  1. Activation on beta-labs for testing
  2. Deployment as a beta-feature on the Wikipedia after testing.

The current request is only for Step 1 i.e. enable Afrikaans on the beta-labs server for testing.

Tentative schedule is week ending March 13 per https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Content_translation/Deployment_Plan#New_languages , adding to Roadmap but may be postponed based on initial testing.
