@MusikAnimal The "Compare" feature and Earwig's tool (https://copyvios.toolforge.org/) cannot see behind paywalls. If the user has copied from a journal article or a website that's behind a paywall, we can't see the overlap or assess the case without the iThenticate report.

Turnitin status https://turnitin.statuspage.io/ indicates that they suffered an outage at the time we were not getting any reports. Normal service seems to have resumed.

Re-opening the ticket, as we are experiencing the same issue again today. The bot is not posting anywhere near the number of reports we normally experience, with only 3 reports filed in the last 9 hours. Thank you!

The bot has been malfunctioning: it stopped filing reports at 01:53 on July 21, resumed at 5:29 and filed one report before stopping, filed three reports at 9:38, and one at 11:09. So only 5 reports were listed in the last 9 hours, when we would normally get 2 to 7 reports per hour.

CopyPatrol was originally developed in response to a Community wish list request. According to the documentation at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/CopyPatrol, the tool is maintained by the Wikimedia Foundation's Community Tech team, so I am surprised that nobody at Community Tech actually knows how to do so.

It looks like there must have been some reports in a buffer or something - reports with timestamps of 17:05 through 17:54 were not on the board when I filed this report. Then the bot apparently went down again, from 17:54 to 21:03. It appears to be running properly again at the moment.

The outage that started at 10:02 on the 7th ended up being nearly 11 hours long, as activity (other than one post) did not resume until 20:55. The bot only functioned for about another hour before it went down again for another 4 hours. It only posted 2 reports and then went down for another 8 hours. It posted reports for quite a while on December 8, from 09:20 until 21:38, when it went down for another 3 hours. I would appreciate it if the bot maintainers could have a look, as we're into the third day of erratic service. Thank you.

In the recent outages, outages occurred

I think 8 times a day would be better (every 3 hours rather than every 6 hours). How does that sound?

There were also Bad Gateway timeouts at Earwig's tool; perhaps there was an issue at Toolforge.

Is it possible that the bot is running but actually missing things during these gaps? Because it doesn't make sense to me that it would find 4 to 8 things to report each hour every hour for days, weeks, or even months at a time and then suddenly have a 4-hour gap or a series of several four-hour gaps.

The system has been behaving erratically for the last day or so with long gaps where no reports are filed. Outages from 2020-10-27 16:36 UTC to 2020-10-27 20:43; from 2020-10-28 00:23 to 2020-10-28 04:03; from 2020-10-28 04:03 to 2020-10-28 08:33; and from 2020-10-28 09:50 to present. All of these gaps are approximately 4 hours long except for the current outage, which is around 6 hours so far. Thanks for any assistance!
