Does "Table editing" include table creation and importing csv files?

@Whatamidoing-WMF: For "table editing" I was just thinking about the standard workflows of creating and editing them by hand. CSV might be a good minor feature though.

As an experienced editor, the shortcuts which interest me the most are the ones which trigger link and template tools with [[ and {{ ; the feature I really want to learn about is how to switch from VE to wikitext while editing.

Suggestions:

  • reuse a citation
  • just show usual shortcuts works (headings, bold, italic, links...)
  • copy/paste content already setup

Okay! After a really absurd amount of time mucking about with screen recording, video conversion, and Commons curation, I present to you five (hopefully) cool visual editor GIFs. I had considered making some more but given the amount of time these took, I don't think I can justify it unless someone really, really needs them.

Great, I may borrow these for my long-promised VisualEditor tutorial video. What screen capture software did you use to make these?

@Pine: I made the original videos (which I uploaded to Commons in WebM format) using Quicktime on OS X, which has a nice screen capture utility. To convert the videos to GIFs, I first tried about 10 different web based video-to-GIF conversion tools, all of which failed in some respect. So I eventually ended up using FFmpeg on the command line to do some sort of GIF conversion black magic.

Have these files been added to any other pages? I'd like to advertise them in Tech News, but I'd rather not link to a user subpage.

@gpaumier, I haven't. We considered adding them to the VE help pages, but thought they'd be too distracting. Perhaps we could make a duplicate of my user subpage at https://mediawiki.org/wiki/VisualEditor/GIFs instead.

Sounds great :) If you do that by tomorrow, I can include it in next week's newsletter.

@gpaumier, it's now available at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/VisualEditor/GIFs. Feel free to edit the page if you see a better way to present them. I also added a new one showing complex copy-paste.

@Neil_P._Quinn_WMF Perfect, thank you!
