We found out that the problem seems to be Avast! antivirus program. At https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=174202.15 had instructions to disable HTTPS scanning (avastUI > Settings > Active Protection > Web Shield > Customize - disable HTTPS scanning) or alternatively add an exception for not scanning https://*.wikipedia.org/* and such sites. It was reported on fiwiki that those instructions did help to solve the problem.

Do we know if all reporters of such issues use the Avast software?

Do we know if all reporters of such issues use the Avast software?

At least the one on IRC (ShakespeareFan00) and the IP on fiwiki.

Also at enwiki users have reported that they have Avast on their computer. This one is an exemption, though can't be sure is it even the same problem or just something very similar.

Krinkle subscribed.

(Reduce tag overload. This is not a problem with JavaScript code, the ResourceLoader framework, website performance, or backend data replication "availability").

I propose to close this task as resolved - no new reports lately that I am aware of.

That thread unfortunately does not tell whether the original reporter uses Avast. :(

It's unclear if this is still a problem (and no further information has been provided whether Avast is involved). This task might get closed without further information and if this cannot be reproduced anymore.

I stopped using Avast in October because of this bug, but a few weeks later I made a note (in order to comment here but then my navigator crashed and I forgot) that on this version of a user page I could not see images 1 and 2 and on all of these three pages I only saw text instead of the image even after ?action=purge, then 10 minutes later a new ?action=purge brought things back to normal.

Four years later, closing.
