Add a center point (or crosshairs) to interactive maps
Closed, ResolvedPublic0 Estimated Story Points

Description

In a discussion on English Wikipedia a few editors discussed mapping solutions they use to find precise coordinates. They currently open an interactive map service, find a location, and copy/paste the coordinates into their on-wiki work.

This led to an obvious (to me) thought that our mapping solution could encompass this use as these editors are looking for coordinates to use on Wikimedia projects.

One of the requests suggested that having a center point - or crosshairs - to determine the exact center location on a map would be useful. Additionally this could be useful to have when editing maps to ensure proper centering of the map.

Super quick rough examples:

Adding @Esanders as he might have some suggestions for this

There is a center point for a while now:

It's a little misplaced, though (reported as T292492). And it's obviously not a crosshair but a handle to grab and move the selection around. But it might be good enough to be able to close this ticket. What do you think?

I think that fulfills the request.
