Investigate using the wikitetx editor for editing info from an import candidate file
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Motivation
When a file is moved to Commons, its info is likely to need change, e.g. adapting templates. Ideally the editing should be done in the same way it is done when editing a file info normally.

Task
Investigate if we can let users use the wikitext editor for their editing. The differences to a usual wikitext editing page are:

  • There is no discussion page / version history / star ... link in the tab bar above.
  • The "show changes" button does not exist
  • The "preview" button (showing preview and edit window at the same time) may or may not stay there, depending on how much work this would be (also we need to think further if this is a wanted behavior, but keep an eye out what this would technically mean)
  • The save button is not called "save", but something along the lines of "use for import"
  • When clicking on "use for import", none of the usual save behavior should be triggered. Instead, the new info should be displayed on the SpecialPage of the file importer which shows a preview of what will be imported

I think this is possible ever since, see T171467: Make file info editable.
