Description

Motivation

As per T332805: Decide the prefix character for temporary usernames we decided that temporary usernames will begin with a tilde (~) prefix. We may want to rename / migrate currently existing user accounts with that prefix on the wikis. In order to do this, we need to look at the following data:

What’s the current number of accounts that have the ~ prefix?
How many of these accounts are active (editors)?
- Last 12 months
Which accounts are active?
- By wiki
- Permissions they hold (are they admin, sysop, checkuser)

This data will help us in:
A) Deciding whether we need to rename users
B) Deciding the best way to do that (if answer to A is yes)
C) Reaching out to affected users

Summary

1209 user names start with tilde across all wikis. Out of those, 44 have edited at least once during the previous 12 months (from 2022-09-01 to 2023-08-31). Only 5 users have made more than 50 edits in the past 12 months.
In terms of user groups, only 10 users whose names start with tilde are in 16 types of special user groups. Among them, only 5 users have edited within the last 12 months. And Out of those, 3 are active editors with more than 50 edits.
