Possibly worth playing with this at the MediaWiki Hackathon, if I can find people interested.

What does this mean exactly? given that this is post larger rollout(?) does this presuppose a single edit tab vs the edit|edit source options or something else? just trying to get clarity around what "enable" would mean in the title, thanks!

"Enable" means "click on the Beta Features link, find 'VisualEditor', tick the box next to it, and save your prefs". It would be convenient if it actually meant "click 'yes' and the software will do all of those steps in the background for you".

"Prompt" means "have a pretty tooltip pointing at the Beta Features link", or something similar. In the most boring sense, it could mean running a Mediawiki:sitenotice with a request for people to opt in.

@Pginer-WMF and @Nirzar were experimenting with a 1 click way to enable content translation from a tipsy style alert which did all the steps @Whatamidoing-WMF outlined. perhaps we could investigate the same thing here…

@Jaredzimmerman-WMF it is done :) CX gets enabled without going to the beta preferences. but we ran into different interaction issue with that (people wouldn't know how to get back to the cx dashboard) but VisualEditor would not have the same issue.

@Pginer-WMF and @Nirzar can you link to the code used by CX to do this please.

Just checking, is there someone working on this task in Wikimedia-Hackathon-2015? If not, please remove the project.
