Objective
The goal of this design refresh is to improve talk page legibility. Currently the way that conversations and replies are presented on the Talk Page can feel overwhelming and challenging to parse.
User stories
As a Junior or Senior Contributor
I need/want to see how conversations relate to each other
so that I can scan and respond to the appropriate conversation in the expected location.

References
- Discussion tools data structure via @DLynch
- @isaacl wrote a custom stylesheet for making the distinctions and relationships between comment more legible (great spot, @Whatamidoing-WMF):
- User:Wedhro raised this issue in this conversation on mediawiki.org: "Another thing that could help people understand what's going on (but it's unrelated to the matter being discussed in the page) is how comments from different users are only differentiated by the final signature, which doesn't help even if users heavily customize them. Maybe a visual break would help, such as a horizontal line after each comment, or a different background for each comment."
- User:Greatder suggested adding some kind of visual indication to clarify the relationship between comments as is done on reddit. //See: Topic:Wvy2k0mom3qvdra9
- @Ed6767 raised this issue on en.wiki
- @catsmoke raised this issue on mediawiki.org: "I wish it was easier to tell the row where one comment ends and the next comment begins. Differently shaded alternating backgrounds would do this."
- User:Jay raised this issue on mediawiki.org: "I would like vertical lines indicating threads like this."
