I've been looking through [[mw:Neil's spreadsheet]], and have narrowed down the options significantly. Among the Wikipedias, I excluded those that have too few new editors each month, too few edits from the mobile site, and too few edits in the visual editor, as well as a few wikis for particular linguistic or local considerations (e.g., to avoid overloading the same community with requests from multiple teams).

This left 17 communities: Slovak, Bulgarian, Thai, Malay, Azerbaijani, Greek, Hindi, Bangla, Simple English, Vietnamese, Turkish, Indonesian, Arabic, Persian, Portuguese, Japanese, and Spanish. (This list is in order of number of new editors making their first edit each month, from least to most.)

By script (in no particular order):

• RTL + Arabic: Either Arabic or Persian will do for this purpose; there is no need to use both.
• Latin: Vietnamese, Turkish, Indonesian, Simple English, Portuguese, Spanish, Malay (=mswiki), Slovak, or Azerbaijani
• Indic: Hindi or Bangla
• Greek: Greek or Bulgarian
• Asian: Japanese or Thai (These two have very different scripts, and are probably not interchangeable.)

I've added the Prospective partners section to the task description to reflect the wikis we've started inviting to participate as partners in this project.

The wikis in this newly created section are based on what @Whatamidoing-WMF shared above in T327707#9135199 [and what we talked about offline on 30 August 2023] as well as the conversations/outreach @Geugeor and @Dyolf77_WMF has been doing.

As agreed with @ppelberg, we delay the end of this consultation by two weeks.

• I have the message in Vietnamese, to be posted on Monday
• I'm polishing the last details for the Japanese version
• We decided to use the English message for Hindi, to be posted on Monday

So far: one reaction from Japanese Wikipedia:

I think it's a good feature. Regarding 2, the first message that appears is ``By adding a citation, readers will be able to understand the source of this information.'' However, I would like to encourage them to add more sources. Wording, e.g. I think it would be better to clearly write, "It is recommended that you cite the source of the written text. [[WP:CITE]]".
