no. |url-access= has nothing to do with |dead-url=. Perhaps you mean |url-status=?

Trappist_the_monk added a comment to T221625: mw.title.getCurrentTitle():getContent() is undef when creating new page in VE preview.

Are you saying that what editors see while editing, is a facsimile and not a true preview of the article? It would seem so. When changes are made, ve only only tweaks those pixels that have been changed? Is that why the {{use xxx dates}} templates appear as puzzle pieces – just visual indicators that some non-displaying something is here? So anything that doesn't render directly onto the 'canvas' doesn't preview (except as a puzzle piece). For example {{italic title}} when added via ve, does not italicize the article title, does not render the expected MediaWiki error message when {{italic title}} conflicts with a {{DISPLAYTITLE}} setting that occurs earlier in the page – things we would expect from a true preview. To learn of this kind of error, editors must either shift to the wikisource editor and preview from there or save the page. There is no true preview in ve.

Trappist_the_monk added a comment to T221625: mw.title.getCurrentTitle():getContent() is undef when creating new page in VE preview.

Not sure I believe that. In the simple create-a-new-article-with-the-wikisource-editor test that I described at Help talk:Citation Style 1, I did not save anything so the preview cannot be, as you claim in that discussion, "against the last saved version of the page" (there is no saved version of a page that has never been saved). I agree that Module:Citation/CS1/Configuration should probably handle a case where mw.title.getCurrentTitle():getContent() returns nil but I do not agree that your proposal to do so is the right and proper remedy of the ve-can't-properly-render-a-preview problem. Clearly because it is possible to preview a never-saved page created by the wikisource editor, the root fault does not lie with ~/Configuration.

Trappist_the_monk added a comment to T220959: bot includes language icon template in cs1|2 |title= parameter.

So perhaps the solution is to abandon edits when |title= would contain a template because, who knows what gibberish templates emit when rendered. In mainspace at en.wiki, {{it icon}} produces this: <span class="languageicon">(in Italian)</span>[[Category:Articles with Italian-language external links]]. Any of the many language wikis that use a relatively recent version of [[Module:Citation/CS1]] will show the URL–wikilink conflict error message when |title= holds a template that produces a wikilink and when |url= has a value (as it will if the bot is creating a cs1|2 template).

Trappist_the_monk added a comment to T132308: Internationalise citoid dates.

The only issue is that they do represent missing precision in the form YYYY-MM

Is that not handled by §5.2.2 Unspecified? That section reads, in part:

  1. Year and month specified, day unspecified.
    • 1999-01-uu
      • some day in January 1999

That form is much the same as the 1999-01-00 form suggested elsewhere and accomplishes the same thing.

What I wrote was merely a suggestion and should be taken to be just that: a suggestion. It was intended to move the conversation ahead. My point was to show that it is possible to create our own inter-tool date exchange standard so that citoid can transmit dates to the various wikis with their various templates in a consistent and understandable manner. We have already had Editor Jc3s5h declare the YYYY-MM-00 format to be unacceptable, you are suggesting, I think, that requiring that en.wiki editors write an en dash in YYYY–yy year range dates is unacceptable. Are we now stymied? Shall we just up stumps and retire to the pavilion?

Trappist_the_monk added a comment to T132308: Internationalise citoid dates.

We do get back dates which violate CS1 rules like 10-04 and 11/11/2007 so we still need to attempt to validate.

At en.wiki the rules are Manual of Style rules that cs1|2 adhere to; they are not 'CS1 rules'

Having our own modified version of ISO that includes seasons and quarters I think increases the burden on citation templates to too great a degree, so as much as it bothers the standards compliant person in me, I think we just have to do this sort of arbitrarily.

These are all great suggestions. I think in iso8601 it is not valid to leave out the dashes except when the time is also included as well though.

Section 4.1.2.3 does say that reduced accuracy year and month dates do require the hyphen.

In cs1|2 the name of the identifier has always been PMC; the template parameter name has always been |pmc=; the value to be assigned to |pmc= has always been numeric only. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Module:Citation/CS1/Identifiers creates the PMC url from the |pmc= parameter value and from the static partial URL //www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC found in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Module:Citation/CS1/Configuration.

@Trappist_the_monk: What do you think is the right answer here? The URL validation is going to produce errors when an accurate (although misguided) web page title is put in the title field. But if you don't validate the field, then manual accidents will be less likely to be caught.

Trappist_the_monk added a comment to T143214: Have IABot use long form URLs for archive.is and webcite.

Essentially if the template can't extract the date and original URL from the archive URL it should throw an error, unless it is an unknown archive.

Have you-all settled on what constitutes a 'long' format url? The RFC seems to indicate that for archive.is, one form has a timestamp with dot separators and one form has a timestamp without separators; for webcite one long-form appears to be the same as the short-form with a url query string tacked on and the other is a query string with url and date keywords.

Perhaps, but I think I realized shortly after that discussion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Lua/Archive_4#stripmarkers_and_mw.text.unstripNoWiki.28.29) that it is necessary for Module:Citation/CS1 to have access to the content of <math>...</math> tags in order to correctly render that information in the citation's metadata. Before I came to that realization, the module was percent encoding the strip marker into the metadata which made gibberish of the information (usually article or book titles) and so rendered it mostly useless to metadata consumers.
