Deploy welcome survey to Basque Wikipedia
Open, MediumPublic

Description

We are going to deploy the Welcome Survey for Basque Wikipedia.

The survey should be deployed to all new accounts -- no A/B test.

The parent task (T223619) has some of the translations relevant for the survey.

  • Ask Legal to upload survey privacy statement and include link on this task.
  • Test survey in Test Wikipedia in Basque to make sure all translations look right and that all links go to correct privacy policy and survey privacy statement.
  • Test survey on desktop and mobile by creating new accounts in production.
  • Check that data is being recorded correctly after deployment.
  • Analyze results to make sure that survey is not negatively impacting newcomers (see T233064).

Event Timeline

This is ready for development, but should not be deployed until we have the survey privacy statement upload by Legal, and the appropriate link for putting into the survey.

I just changed the description to say that we will deploy to all new users, not in an A/B test. That's because Basque Wikipedia gets new accounts slowly enough that the experiment would take too long to run. Perhaps @Theklan and company can keep an eye out for whether it seems like the welcome survey causes fewer new users to finish creating their accounts.

Change 537801 had a related patch set uploaded (by Kosta Harlan; owner: Kosta Harlan):

OK cool. We still need the privacy policy link, but once we have that this is ready to go.

@Theklan please note a few messages need translation:

>> The "eu" translation has 3 missing translations:
>> The translation of "welcomesurvey-question-reason-option-edit-info-add-change-label" is missing.
>> The translation of "welcomesurvey-question-reason-option-add-image-label" is missing.
>> The translation of "welcomesurvey-question-reason-option-program-participant-label" is missing.

[operations/mediawiki-config@master] GrowthExperiments: Enable WelcomeSurvey for euwiki

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/537801

Mentioned in SAL (#wikimedia-operations) [2019-09-25T16:19:12Z] <tgr@deploy1001> Synchronized wmf-config/InitialiseSettings.php: SWAT: [[gerrit:537801|GrowthExperiments: Enable WelcomeSurvey for euwiki (T233063)]] (duration: 01m 04s)

Checked euwiki and updated the task accordingly.

Two issues:

I have redirected it. If it is supposed to be another link, I can figure out something.

Thanks, @Theklan! Checked - two links on the Special:WelcomeSurvey page - Tutoriala and Laguntza - redirect to the same page - https://eu.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Laguntza:Sarrera&source=survey.

What should the difference be?

What should the difference be?

It depends on users' expectations: the users may expect that each link should lead to a different page. I looked at the Laguntza:Sarrera page has several sections that provide useful info for newcomers as well as tutorials. It makes sense for Tutoriala link to direct users to the same page.

I also checked welcomesurvey-responses are being recorded. Re-assigning to @nettrom_WMF for checking and analyzing data.
