I added some comments to the specific design-related tickets, but I have a more general question: is there some instrumentation done/planned for this?

I recall that for the upload wizard there was some instrumentation to identify at which step users abandoned the process (and how many times people got successfully to it). I think this can be useful here too. In addition, it would be great to keep track the removal/deletion ratio (i.e., image removed from the page or deleted from Commons) of images added through this flow as a rough estimation of the quality of the images added through this workflow.
