Allow user to save articles from their browser to the Wikipedia iOS app
Open, LowPublic

Description

User story

As a user who accesses Wikipedia through my web browser as well as the app, I want to be able to add articles accessed through the web directly to my 'Saved' list in the Wikipedia app.

Proposed solution

  1. Add a "Save to Wikipedia app" option available via the Share sheet from the user's browser.
  1. Create a browser extension for Desktop web.

Switched the parent task relationship so that the actual work blocks this task for resolving.

Adding this feature through a browser extension makes it intrinsically reliant on the browser being supported. Instead, the feature should be embraced within the account page design itself. Just like on the mobile devices, one should be able to save articles, keep them in groups and sync the information across all devices. This is the biggest hindrance I face in using the Wikipedia app. Currently, I have to use the bookmarks feature of a browser as a workaround.
