Deployment phases

Concerning the deployment, and the possible push back, we will follow the TCG recommandations like they are now:

  • Communities with no strong opinions will be scheduled by the development teams (phase 2).
  • Communities with specific concerns or internal discussion can request to have the deployment to their wikis delayed to phase 2 if they have sensible, consistent with the project, actionable, realistic feedback to oppose (at the development team's appreciation)

A phase 1 exists with a short list of wikis that will get the feature early.

Phases are defined as:

  • Phase 1: he.wiki, ca.wiki, fr.wiki week of SEPT 19 (any community can decide to have the filters this day)
    • messages posted
  • Phase 2: All communities except those with valid reasons why not, week of ~~ SEPT 26 ~~ OCT 3
    • messages to be posted on week 37
  • Phase 3: Holdover from phase 2, week of OCT 10

New reminders just posted to he, fr and ca.

Due to T176250: Defer building new filters menu to speed up performance, the release is postponed until October 3. An email has been sent to tech ambassadors.

Please make clear to everyone you speak to that the slowdown may or may not be related to the new filters. Many users have been complaining about Watchlist slowdowns related to Wikidata that predate the beta release, and there is a very active effort to sort out these Wikidata issues, as documented in T171027.

Meanwhile, among our many other efforts, we're making systematic speed tests (T176445) to get a better grasp on where exactly the problem lies.

New message sent to Tech Ambassadors to keep them posted about the release and speed improvements.

We are still receving some feedback, which is more about small details to fix. I continue to support that feedback page but the task is close to be resolved. Only wikis using FlaggedRevisions have to get the deployment. (T159791)
