Background
While there is a long tail of design and design system-adjacent resources to be folded into Codex as the Design System (DS) for Wikimedia, this task sets out to identify the first step we want to take before widespread communication.
Open Questions
- Apps. Review how the Apps will be referenced - Apps need to remain represented as being connected but delineated from Codex Web components.
- Patterns. Certain DSG components (like the Language Selector) make more sense as patterns in Codex, but we don't currently include patterns in the Codex doc site right now.
Acceptance Criteria
- A deprecation warning is added to the DSG to inform users of the move T347754: DSG: Add deprecation notice
- All identified DSG resources are available at https://doc.wikimedia.org/codex/main/
- Overview, Design Principles, Visual Styles T333437: Create MVP version of DSG documentation in Codex
- T343451: Component's guidelines: move the existing DSG component's guidelines to Codex
- T343453: Illustration's guidelines: move section from the DSG to Codex
- T343457: Apps guidelines: move section from the DSG to Codex
- All docs and resources are updated to reflect Codex as the DS for Wikimedia, and not just a UI toolkit, see also T346082
- An announcement is made to clarify this change in positioning (channels TBD) -- maybe to be coordinated with the Codex 1.0 release
Future tasks
- T347895: Redirect DSG to Codex's Style Guide (permanent redirect after ~3 months after completing T347754)
- T347313: Component's guidelines (post-MVP): pending fixes and improvements
- T300053: Bi-directionality: Documentation for RTL icons, components and patterns
- T311671: Add “UX Copywriting Guidelines” to the Codex Design System's resources
