Works well for most images I viewed. I ran into an issue where you cannot view the reason because you can't scroll fully through the image information when there are really long descriptions (example), I will create a separate task to address that.

I noticed an issue with the search option not working any more from this view.

This does not match designs / did not go through Design review because it reuses the existing preview functionality.
The existing edit preview does not show the image as a header image (what is requested by the designs). We'll explore adding that functionality across the app as a follow-up task.

The translations for the Support email translations have not been added yet, or the interface translations for the feature as a whole.

The image preview does not remove the "Share" option from the standard image preview as shown in the designs, but core functionality is there for zooming, accessing meta-data, and opening commons listing as required.

We decided not to pick up the task that would address this (T359134) at this time.

Not picking up at this time: If we see an abnormal amount of reverts on English, we'll check how many of those reverts were because of the infobox and raise priority of this ticket.

We have decided to work on @cmadeo's second option above, + a solution for users that have both one variant as primary, the other as secondary.

For users who only have one generic variant as their primary language in their language list use the solution above, for users who have multiple generic languages in their language list show a prompt that sends them to their language settings screen

Thank you @Diskdance, I created a separate task T363511 for adding the language variant zh-cn into the iOS app as we don't currently have it. Once that is complete, we'll return to this task.
